While out on my travels this weekend, I dropped in to local French deli Le Peche Mignon, where a festive fair was taking place. I'd shown up to buy some fabulous pâtisserie and cheese, but my attention was diverted when I spotted these colourful and unusual place mats being sold alongside the food. Their talented makers had pitched up at the deli to showcase their work, which is made using a felting technique that results in really rugged and hard-wearing fabric; perfect for making tableware that you'll use again and again.
The mats themselves come in two varieties: pebbles and leaves. The leaf designs, shown above, are my personal favourites as they come in such warm and inviting colours. But you can check out the full set here.
