Those mysterious Knit the City girls have been at it again with a Christmas Yarnstorm for the festive season. They were spotted at London's Royal Opera House near Covent Garden last week where they brought a little culture to a rather chilly ballerina.
Enzo Plazzotta's ballerina statue, which sits opposite the Royal Opera House on Bow Street, was treated to a woolly wave of characters from the Nutcracker ballet as the Knit the City Yarn Corps led the yarnstorming attack on the lonely statue in their Nutcracker Knitmare Before Christmas.
Flower dancers, mouse soldiers, harlequins, fairies, snowflakes, and a Nutcracker Prince who vaguely resembled Freddy Mercury were all seen to be climbing the statue in a knitted cross between Gulliver's Travels and the ballet.
A taster of the knit graffiti installation can be seen on their website with the full story to come. Which is probably a good thing as every single piece was pinched by passers by within 48 hours of the yarnstorm. I wonder where they all are now?
