Ravelympics 2010: Race with your knitting

ravelmpics2010.jpgAs Canada's Winter Olympics dash through the snow for medals the knitting world is all of a flutter too. Saturday's official Winter Olympics start saw the start of Ravelry's official knitting Olympics and it looks to have as many muscle strains and bitter rivalries as its snow-covered sister.

Ravelry, essentially the Facebook of the knitting world, ran their first Ravelympics back in 2008 during the Beijing Olympics. Hundreds of teams completed all over the globe.

The idea is to complete your project or projects during the duration of the Olympics. Events cover all areas of the yarniverse from the 'Short Track Shawls' and 'Sock Hockey' to 'Designer Biathlon' and 'Downhill Dyeing'.

You can knit on alone or join a team (Ravelry has a team for every interest you can shake a stick at. Team Tardis for Dr Who fans being a prime example).

See the full rules and explanation on how to join here on Ravelry.

You're very welcome to join Stitch and Bitch London's team. Just don't forget your teabags and Marmite.
