Disappearing crafts in The Guardian

guardiancrafther.jpgThe folks at the Guardian have always been excellent at keeping up with craft news and even have their own Craft section which blows news-scented raspberries at most other newspapers. Their recent Disappearing Acts series is a fascinating look into Britain's dying crafts.

Covering the intricacies of making a watch, to the outdoors action of laying a hedge, to bookbinding, glassblowing and making your own fishing rod, the series features interviews with craft masters and detailed photo how tos and videos.

Their most recent article on the new Heritage Crafts Association, launched to bring the disappearing crafts to the attention of the government in an attempt to save our country's traditions, shows just how much we could be losing.

An admirable call to arms (or more specifically hands) for the crafty heroes out there to get behind.

  • Thanks for this heads-up - would never have thought to check out The Guardian for crafty stuff (even though I read it every Saturday!). Just subscribed to two of their webfeeds :)

  • Happy to be of service. Keep an eye out for stuff by the lovely Perri Lewis. She's particularly ace. :)
