Graffiti knit Boris Bikes to highlight disposable fashion

boris_bikes_knit.jpgThe infamous Boris Bikes, or the more officially named Barclay's Cycle Hire, hit London this summer with various stops and starts. They can be found and peddled away all over London. Why not use the attention they've been getting to spread a some serious thinking about fashion?

New craftivist group Knitty Gritty seem to be made up of various fabric selling factions including Annie Sherburne and Barley Massey (of Fabrications) and their friends.

The group is "a new community thread weaving its way through the warm creative arms of Londoner's" and seems to be taking part in lots of arty projects where craft has a message.

Sporting knitted seat covers and labels reading "Approx 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away each year in the UK. Only 1/4 of this is recycled" and "Disposable fashion: 74% of the 2 million tonnes of clothing we buy each year end up in landfills", the bikes proudly told cyclists and passers by all about it.

Stalk them on Facebook or their blog for more craftivism.
