It's official. Craft is king (or Queen)! The .net Awards, run by the world's best-selling magazine for web design, are given to celebrate the best in web design and development. Three of the planet's biggest social sites were up for the coveted Community Site of the Year Award, but there was only one the crafters were giving their vote to.
Social network giants Twitter and Facebook fell at the yarn-wielding hands of Ravelry.com much to the undisguised glee of crafters everywhere.
Ravelry, the world's largest and most successful social networking site for knitter, crocheters and spinners has won the hearts of every new member since it was launched in May 2007. Code-monkey Casey has built a site that is clever, intuitive, amusing, unexpected and seriously addictive. Ravelry users think of Ravelry as home. I know I do.
The fact that Ravelry's member count recently rolled over to 1 000 000 (yes, that six zeroes) goes to show that there are more people out there knitting than those non-crafting muggles think. And we couldn't be prouder to be a part of the most kick-ass social networking site on the planet.
Footage of the event can be seen on Ravelry member Velvet's Flickr, and Ravelry members can join in the happy dance on the celebration thread.
Code monkey Casey, we salute you.
