Crocheted lucky Japanese cats

lucky_chinese_cats.JPGManeki Neko Cats are the cheeky feline chaps that can often be seen waving from shops with an eastern flavour. Unfailingly happy they are said to bring luck to the shops owner.

Twitter recently pointed me in the direction of a whole set of Maneki Neko Cats hooked into existence by crochet queen Shan of Knit.Shan.Knit.

The cats were part of a custom order and were a real labour of love. It was all worth it in the end as the fabulous three felines look perfect. They even have the lucky coins around their necks and the jaunty beckoning paw in the air.

Check out more of Shan's splendid stitching at her Esty shop.

No, she was right the first time. They originated in China and they became popular in Japan...

Oh, those are so adorable! I'm pretty sure they are a Japanese thing though, not Chinese.

  • Thanks for the head's up. I've corrected it. :)
