Knitting by candlelight isn't a good idea either for your eyes or for your precious stitching. No one likes the thought of their handstitching going up in smoke. But flame-proof knitting is on its way, people and New Scientist have the proof.
This fiery video show a bodysuit, invented by a Lamination Technologies, is made from artificial fibres, spun into different types of yarn, and knit into sheets. The suit withstood flames at 1100˚C for seven seconds and lived to tell the tale.
The balls of yarn would probably cost a scary amount of money and I'm not sure there'd be colour choice but fireside stitching can at last make a safe comeback. Flame on!
