Squishy steampunk? Bring it on! Crafty fans of HG Wells, Lovecraft and more recently Mortal Engines are in for a brass and clockwork treat with Search Press's new book, Steampunk Softies: 8 Scientifically Minded Dolls from a Past that Never Was by Nicola Tedman and Sarah Skeate (the team who brought you Zombie Felties).
The cast of characters you can create, through simple templates and step-by-step pictures are brilliant, and use easily found every day materials to bring them to life.
My favourites (although it is devilishly hard to choose) are ladylike Marveletta O'Houlihan (pictured on the cover) who peers out through her ornate opera glasses, Geromino Bore with his drill arm and button eye, and the winged Charity Storm with her flying red mane and her fly eyes.
An amazing book for steampunk fans and softie makers alike. Shoving you politely in the direction of turning almost anything shiny into something steampunk, with quirky Tim-Burton-esque illustrations and a sense of humour to match.
Steampunk splendiferousness in spadeloads.
