Christmas recipe: Holiday Cookie Cocktail

drinking_chefs.pngWhen searching for holiday cocktails, who better to advise than the sassy Alabama ladies known as the Drinking Chefs? These hard-cookin', hard-drinkin' down-home sweethearts appreciate a high-quality libation. For Christmas, they've mixed up the perfect treat: their Holiday Cookie Cocktail.

Using brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla (plus, erm, a decent amount of booze), these saucy ladies have created a super-spicy White Russian perfect for holiday tippling. It's kind of what I'd imagine the Dude's relatives would serve him over the Christmas season.

For me, one of the most enticing things about this recipe is the Chefs' idea to crumble actual cookies or biscuits, mix 'em with colorful sugar, and use them to rim the cocktail glasses. In the USA, graham crackers or gingersnaps would be great choices for this step. In the UK, speculoos biscuits would be worth tracking down - my favorite brand is Lotus.

  • The difference between the secondary Dutch word and that of Latin origin is that, whereas the koekje is a cake that rises during baking, the biscuit, which has no raising agent, in general does not (see gingerbread/ginger biscuit), except for the expansion of heated air during baking.

  • Love it!  I am a little behind in finding this, but awesome article!
