Online sewing and crafting mecca BurdaStyle says no - and has put together a massive gallery of 2011's most popular projects to make the case.
If you're looking for sewing inspiration for the New Year, I can't think of anywhere better to turn. From couture-quality wedding dresses to casual clothes to wear on holiday, to adorably nutty student projects, some enterprising crafter has done it - and done it very well. Even better, they're willing to share their secrets.

Many of the patterns used are available for free or for a minimal cost on BurdaStyle, so there's very little disincentive to giving fashion sewing a try in the New Year.
