The world's HUGEST crocheted blanket

largest_crochetblanket.jpgGalloping grandmas, this is possibly the most awe-inspiring graffiti craft photo I have ever laid eyes on. This in an image of the steps of Helsinki Cathedral covered in 1000 crocheted blankets. That is whole lotta hookin'.

The campaign to gather 1000 blankets, organised by three Finnish organisations: Marttaliitto, Tekstiiliopettajaliitto and Novita, goes to prove just how many crafty people are out there. The groups ended up with a staggering 7800 blankets, which will be donated to families in need, since the campaign began last January.

The woolly warmers were sourced from all over the country and made by everyone from school kids to hook-wielding grannies. See more amazing pictures over at the Isoäidinneliöillä maailman suurin tilkkupeitto Facebook group.

You can even make your own if you know the lingo (sadly the pattern isn't in English but there are plenty of blanket pattern on Ravelry should you want to rustle some up for the needy in your neighbourhood).

Total fibre-based fabulous. Go Finnish crafters!
