Being crafty can be a little bit of a curse. You see so many things you want to make and at some point you have to accept something horrifying: there will never be enough time to make everything you want yourself. AGH! Which is why the existence of places like Cloth Ears make me very happy.
I have an infinite love of Moomins, I love the look of crochet, but I cannot crochet to save my life. Well, maybe a bit of chain stitch but that's my lots. So when I laid eyes on this fantastic Snorkmaiden I was excited to see someone selling something I couldn't make myself but was exactly what I wanted, and there are so many other lovelies on offer too.
Cloth Ears was born when Julie, Cloth Ears creator, wanted to create a cosy home for herself, her fiancé and her cat. She could visualise what she wanted, and being a crafty soul, she began to create these homely bits when she couldn't find them in the shops.
The idea grew and grew and is now a full-time business, run from a studio in beautiful Whitstable with several crafters on the team.
What comes across most of all is Julie and the team's obvious love for what they do. Every item from their Moomins, to their squishy owls, to the fabric doctor's kit and tool set, to their heaps of lovely vintage-style stuff are handmade with a total love of craft stitched into every part.
Cloth Ears is what small craft businesses should be like. Love it!
