Recipe: Super Bowl Whoopie Pies!

whoopiepies1.jpgAbove: these Super Bowl whoopie pies from Make Merry are a new American classic.

For some, it's the biggest day of the year. For others, it's a total mystery. Regardless of where you stand vis-a-vis American football, this Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI proffers plentiful inspiration for slightly kitschy, often wildly OTT American-themed cooking. Chicken wings, seven-layer dip, and plenty of beer - what's not to like?

Well, I can't enjoy a meal - however rich in calories - without dessert. These scrumptious Whoopie Pies from Make Merry are a super-fun way of rounding off. The only drawback is the need to buy a special pan - but if you hit Ebay today, you can still have your tin in time to bake for the big day!

Alternately, make cupcakes with the same recipe. When cool, remove the wrapper and slice 'em in half. Slather on some filling, put your cupcake back together (sans wrapper), and draw on the distinctive markings of the football. There you go - a nice cake any Super Bowl Champion would be happy to wolf down.

If it all gets to be a bit too much, can I suggest the Vampiro, the tequila-based tipple that Martha Stewart's designated as her official Super Bowl cocktail?

My folks don't watch much football - my mother prefers taunting the Yankees, and my husband digs the Premiership - but I do like a tasty beverage.

Go, Giants!

    These rock.

I bet Super Bowl Champion and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers would love a batch.
