A lot of us craft because we want to make something that's unique, that's entirely ours - and nothing makes your craft one-of-a-kind like a good dye-job.
From tea-dyeing to acid-based Jacquard dyes, there are plenty of options for your first dye project, but in my opinion nothing beats Kool-Aid. It's tried, it's true, it's non-toxic, and it comes in some truly amazing colors.
Left: I love Miss Make's drawings! They're almost as fab as this tutorial.
This tutorial from Miss Make introduces dyeing yarn as the ultimate starter craft. All you need is plain 100% wool yarn, an oven-safe glass dish, a microwave, and some Kool-aid.
Just looking at her finished skein, above, makes me think of a pair of mittens that make dreary winter days cheery, or a self-striping cardigan that will always make me smile.
Even better, Miss Make has published a follow-up post, so you can see what the yarn looks like knitted up.
Have you tried Kool-aid dyeing? Got any tips, maybe a favorite flavor to use? Please spill all in our comments!
