How to: make articulated wings

Articulated-Wing-Framework.jpgWho hasn't dreamed of rocking a pair of wings? Those birds have all the fun. Flapping around up there in the heavens with their feathers and their swooping. Sigh. Well, you might not be able to take flight but you can certainly conjure you own pair of amazing articulated wings? Don't believe me? Check this out.

This How To for Articulated Wing Framework is the work of Instructables member Rachel. It's a total cosplay win. The wings spread as the wearer raises and lowers their arms, and flap back and forwards in an eerily realistic motion.

The skeleton of the wings is made from balsa wood and an old frame backpack, but there are a whole lot of materials to make the magic happen.

If you've got time to get fiddly how amazing would these be to own? Cover them in feathers, sparkly fairy fabric, or scaly dragon skin and flutter about your neighbourhood scaring the bejesus out of passers by. Love it.

  • Now that's something that I won't be able to think of. Nice idea on how to make it look like that you have wings. Very creative, but if you ask me, I would much rather create a wing out of cottons making it easier for you to move without worrying where the shadow is found behind you.

I am so making this for my next cosplay idea!!
I won't forget though, to give you all the credit for the success of my cosplay!
I'll try to put up a picture of it once it is done!! =^-^=
(might take some time though, 'cuz i ain't making it until next year's festival!)

  • I always wear costumes with wings but I buy the wings at the
store. I think I should just invest on this skeleton wing so I can make my own
    wings with different designs.
