Starter Craft: Button Monogram for Mother's Day!

button_monogram_close.jpgAbove: love buttons? Love your mother? Show your dual affections with this rad framed button monogram project from American Craft Studio.

The fact that UK and US Mother's Day are in different months is one of those 'tomate-oh'/'tomaht-oh' things about the transatlantic divide that seems designed to induce hours of head-scratching. With UK Mother's Day coming up this Sunday (trivia alert: this holiday is also known as 'Mothering Sunday' in the UK) we here at Crafty Crafty have decided to help the Brits out with the last minute "what can I make for my mummy?" panic that's sweeping the land.

Well, no matter which side of the pond you hail from, this cute and fast starter craft project from Jen Jockisch at American Craft Studio will impress your mom (or mum! Agh, these national differences are starting to make me crazy!) and come in under your gift budget.

How can I be so sure? Well, if you use Swarovski crystals to impress your momz (and probably blind her in the process) that's fine...but the rest of us can use buttons we've already got, or that we buy at reasonable prices from our local craft emporium.

The most exotic thing on the list of materials is a paper piercer - otherwise known as an awl. Pick one up for this project and a whole world of home bookbinding - like this great journal tute from Curiously Crafty - will open up to you (trust me, this is a good thing!)

UK folk, get your skates on....US folk, you have some time to breathe, plan, and execute before the big day, but don't get cocky and let your two months of extra prep time slip by! Every crafty mutha deserves a handmade gift on Mother's Day.
