Fibre art has 1000 different threads, and there's new and jaw-droppingly innovative examples happening all the time. One particularly fine example of fabulous fibre art is the work of American-born Cayce Zavaglia, with her needle-point 'paintings'.
Cayce's largest works measure about 30.5cm by one metre wide, and can take six months of painstaking hand stitching to complete. The artist turned to softer art materials when she worried about the fumes from paints affecting her during pregnancy.
Check out a fascinating interview with the artist over at Yatzer and see more of her thread-based art on her website.
