How to: make a foldaway shopping bag

foldaway_tote.jpg

When I was living in Japan a few years ago I picked up a foldaway shopping bag in the yen shop (their equivalent to the £1 shop!) and thought it was genius. I'd never seen them before. I bought a couple and they are always in my bag.

Of course, when I got home they were everywhere (a lot of genius ideas originate in Japan!). They are quite a simple construction. Which always lead me to the question "How do I make it?"

Over at Crafty Ady, they have made a fantastic foldaway tote tutorial that's simple to follow. Featuring lots of pictures and step-by-step instructions, you can be on your way to making lots of little bags in no time. The tutorial is written in three parts, with part 2 and part 3 on following posts.

Anything that uses up my stash and that I can have on show gets my vote!

They would be great little pressies too. OK, I know it's far too early to be thinking about Christmas, but any occasion that calls for bulk present giving/making, this would be a great project to try.

Have you used a how to featured on Crafty Crafty to make something? We'd love to see what you've made, leave a comment below.

  • This bag looks simple, but it has a very interesting design. This is a type of bag that isn't bulky to take while you're shopping. It's user friendly and you can take it anywhere you go.
