Above: make these fab panniers for your next bike trip, using only one metre of fabric!
The Guardian has become a great destination for tips and projects covering all areas of the home-made experience, from expert baking to knitting a blanket for a homeless pooch.
Now they've teamed up with the authors of 101 Fabric-by-Fabric Ways to Sew a Metre (which has appeared in the US under a slightly different moniker) to offer a free pattern for creating bicycle hold-alls, or panniers
Pannier is just French for 'basket', and these fabric equivalents give you a bit of extra leeway in terms of what you can bring along on your next bike trip. Much better than trying to steer with an overloaded front basket!
Left: Jessie's Bicitoro pannier has loads of capacity, and even comes with a laptop compartment! Intense.
Need even more storage for your next expedition? Jessie at Bicitoro has cooked up a fantastic set of instructions for making a huge pannier - complete with a follow-up post on actually cycling with it! I recommend reading both posts - it's great when crafters 'fess up to let you know what they would do differently (and what they did right!)
