Call it
yarn art, yarnstorming or
yarnbombing, knitting in public spaces and turning a bit of the world woolly is a positive and fun thing for a community to do. A new Essex-based event,
The Knit-together Project, is hoping to bring that community craft pride to the Rochford, Rayleigh and Hockley
area in Essex, and they want as many stitchers to join as possible.
The artist-led collaboration is asking knitters and crocheters who want to
share their skills and those who would like to learn to take part in the project during May, June and July 2012.
Jess
Worley, the textile artist running the project, will be teaching young people how to knit and
working
with them to make woolly installations for the Hockley Wild Woods
festival.
The project is open to all ages and all abilities, and the group will
also have the opportunity to pass on their skills to young people, visitors to
Hockley Wild Woods and visitors to the Sparks will Fly Olympic Torch Relay Stop Event at Chelmsford Hyland Park.
Knit-together
is an Essex Cultural Olympiad project and fabulous opportunity for local communities to work together creatively. Why keep your knitting and crochet to yourself when you can release it into the wild and celebrate your creative community?
