Fashion vs Street Art: Marc Jacobs and Kidult face off

marc_jacobs.jpgIn New York, and indeed many cities around the world, graffiti is not an unknown sight.

In fact many graffiti artists have become well known and graffiti is now seen as art, especially  since Banksy became a household name.

One street artist in New York is the French artist Kidult. His latest stunt was to fill a fire extinguisher with pink paint and 'hit' the Marc Jacobs store in the city's Soho area.

marc_jacobs_tee.jpgMany fashion stores have had a lick of paint in the same way recently thanks to Kidult, including the Hermes and Louis Vuitton stores being made over.

After painting the Marc Jacobs store, Kidult turned to Twitter to brag about his latest work, tweeting "I did some art?".

The Marc Jacobs team responded in an unpredictable way by pasting the work as 'Art by Art Jacobs' on Instagram.

This was quickly followed up with the images being printed onto t-shirts to be sold by Marc Jacobs in the store for $680 a pop!

Whether you view it as a clever way to monopolise on vandalism or as an insult by copying and selling Kidult's work, one thing is definite, the publicity isn't too bad for either party.
