Crafty Trendwatch: how to make DIY Bleached Denim

denimtiedye_10.jpgCrafty Crafty trendwatch turns its probing glare on the twisted, torrid world of bleached denim. Is this fashion? Or is this simply a crime against clothing - and craft? Try out this trio of tasty tutorials and decide for yourself!

Maybe it's just because I grew up under the influence of Guns n' Roses - but I have to admit to a certain weakness for bleached denim, especially in the summer.

Call me crazy, but don't call me lonely. Because craft and fashion blogs are abuzz with precisely these kinds of so-wrong-it's-right goings on. From Brooklyn to Hackney, the bleached young things rule. And now, thanks to the magic of this trio of easy-peasy tutorials, so can you.

Let's start with the more conservative end of the trend. HonestlyWTF has a great tutorial about turning a Madewell denim shirt into a hurricane swirl of delicious light spots.

Not a low enough pH for you? (Okay, enough bleach jokes.) Denim Therapy - who else? - have a rad how-to up for turning your shorts into hotpants worthy of a Def Leppard video extra. Warning: do not attempt while high on hair metal!

Still not convinced? Sigh...well, how about this workplace-worthy look by the adorable Make Me Up Kia? Inspired by Belgian bleach-o-phile Dries van Noten (and, erm, Tesco), this DIY fashionista has crafted a bleached-sleeve blazer that not even the hardest-nosed of bosses could fail to smile upon.

Check out the full how-to and explore the slightly more raging end of 'business casual' this summer.
