Gallery: top picks for Summer Graphic Novels

motel_art_improvement_service.jpgWith the UK comics scene better than ever, this is a great time to dip into this gallery of Ellen Lindner's top picks for summer comics and graphic novels, including Motel Art Improvement Service by Jason Little.

There's a myth going 'round that ladies can't, won't, and never read comics. But it just ain't true, and this is a fantastic time to get into this vibrant literary artform.

Why? Well, with new publishers like Nobrow and Blank Slate taking the literary world by storm, the UK is in the midst of a serious comix Renaissance. And since the US indie scene is as lively as ever, you can get your comix kicks on two continents - via the magic of the internet!

To help out anyone who loves comics - or think they might! - I've picked out my top ten summer comic books for this gallery. Enjoy!

I want to read all of these!

Another one to try is Steampunk Holmes. It's the paperback prequel to the most eagerly awaited interactive book ever - coming in November, and with a massive budget, some of which was crowdsourced through Kickstarter..... its not a graphic novel per se as it just includes the character graphics alongside the full Sherlock Holmes text, but gives a feel for the wonders that await in the interactive version
