How to: make Father's Day spicy with a Michelada cocktail

michelada.jpgCelebrate Father's Day by mixing your dad up a spicy michelada cocktail - the perfect accompaniment to a Sunday spent in front of the telly.

Recently I discovered the michelada, a Mexican 'beertail' made by combining good Mexican beer (I like Modelo Especial but Corona will do) with a variety of spicy and savory ingredients. When done right, they're sort of like a beery Bloody Mary - boozy and nutritious!

Even better, with Father's Day coming up you can make your dad something he'll enjoy while having to deal with very few special ingredients. This five-star recipe from Food Republik will tell you all you need to know.

A note: up where I live in Spanish Harlem the locals like micheladas to be blow-your-head-off hot - a great distraction when there's a heatwave here in NYC. But if your dad would just like a tasty drink to go with Euro 2012, ramp down the spice and add some extra tomato juice.

There's something right about drinking a fiery and very manly cocktail while watching Cesc Fabregas do his thing (okay, now I am revealing a bit too much about how I spend my time!)
