How to: make fabric roses

Handmade weddings are all the rage in recent years, not least due to the recession. I've always loved the idea of a handmade wedding as I think it brings out the personality of the couple and if you get all your friends and family to help out it can really bring a sense of participation to the event.

Why not make the flowers too? There are some fantastic ideas for homemade bouquets online, but I love the Garden Roses tutorial from Wedding Bee.

Using just synthetic fabric and a candle you can burn your way to a whole garden full of roses in only a few hours and they look realistic too. You could also add some vintage broken jewellery or buttons to the centres to give a little bling to the look.

Not getting married? These flowers would look fantastic as a brooch or as decorations at home, leaving the real flowers to stay living for longer in the garden.

Want to have a play with leather instead? Check out our leather flower tutorial which uses a similar technique to get a different result!
