Vote for Crafty Crafty's best post of all time

crafty-vote.jpgOK. so perhaps using a term like 'of all time' is over-egging the pudding a bit for a website that's been around for just two short years, but in that time we've explored just about every type of craft imaginable, and I never stop being surprised at which stories generate the most interest.

To celebrate two years of Crafty Crafty, I've rounded up our most popular posts to give you the chance to pick your favourite.

Follow the jump to see the top five and cast your vote!

Mini dressmakers' dummy jewellery stand (one dead Barbie required)

jewel.jpg

Amy from Craft Chi has come up with a fantastic idea for making a dressmakers' dummy jewellery stand: she's butchered an old Barbie and coated it in fabric and other embellishments to look much like the shop-bought variety that make such popular gifts. This would be an ideal project for anyone stuck for present ideas, or who's drowning in necklaces! Click here for the full instructions.

Halloween: Pick of the best pumpkin stencils

Jack-O-Lantern_cat.jpgWe've shown you the basics, but if you're bored of toothy grins and triangle noses and want something a little more advanced on your pumpkin, you'll be needing to use a stencil. We've collected together some of the best on the web so you can have the coolest lantern on the block.

1. Geeky pumpkins featuring Mario, Dwarf (from World of Warcraft), Stubbs the Zombie and other favourites. You might also want to make a smiley pumpkin with this emoticon set, and for the true geek, there's even one for the Linux penguin!

2. Animal Faces, including cats, bats, owls and dogs. Not actually an animal, but I can't forget spiders here - particularly cool if you carve a web shape as well!

3. Tim Burton characters: everyone's favourite spooky director has some awesome pumpkin inspiration. There's a selection of Jack Skellington pumpkin stencils here and a nice, big Jack face here.

4. Party Themes including 'happy halloween' text, Boo!, Simpsons faces and more.

5. Witches galore: My favourites are here, here and here.

6. Really quirky faces: check out these patterns for Wizard of Oz themes, American presidents, including George Bush and Bill Clinton, a dreadlocked pumpkin, and a cyclops pumpkin.

Halloween Craft: Pumpkin carving for beginners

There are so many quirky and exciting jack 'o' lanterns on the web that it's easy to forget a basic, grinning face can look just as effective as anything you'll find on Extreme Pumpkins!

As a newbie to pumpkin carving, I wanted something that would show me that basics, and this video makes it look really easy. I guess I'll find out when I actually get going with my pumpkin and knife, but for the time being I'm enjoying watching these simple instructions. It's this dude's first time, so don't be scared if you've not made one before!

Halloween craft: Extreme pumpkins

mario-pumpkin.jpg

Let's face it, you could make yourself a regular old Jack-o-lantern this Halloween, but what would be the fun in that? Much better to make something like this Mari-o-lantern - for one thing, it's a whole lot scarier, and it'll kick your friends' Jack-o-Lantern's ass. Well worth all the time and effort you'll put into carving the thing...

And if THAT isn't enough to scare the neighbours, may e recommend Extreme Pumpkins: 'pumpkin carving at its weirdest'. This wonderful site includes the basics on carving, an annual pumpkin contest and a wonderful photo gallery showing previous entries. They include worm-infested pumpkins, roadkill pumpkins and the now notorious puking pumpkin. A must-see before you get going with the power tools! [Via Shiny Shiny]

Pick of the Best: Autumn (Fall) softies

autumn%20pick.jpg

It's well and truly autumn now, with a chestnut falling on my daughter's head yesterday (just like Chicken Licken and his acorn!). In her honour I thought I'd pick some cool Autumnal softies for your pleasure. They all give me a warm fuzzy glow and make me long for a big mug of hot chocolate. Don't you just love autumn?
