Inspired by the sunshine in London this week, I got busy with some scissors, glue and fabric scraps to make some fun flowers you can use to decorate almost anything. They're quick to make, easy enough for kids to make and very versatile - see the video below for instructions!
I still take a certain childish glee in discovering techniques that are so much easier to get right than they look, and this is a good example: the 'petals' on these eye-popping flower embellishments are pre-made pom-poms (the sort you can buy at the craft store for next to nothing) arranged in the right way to give a felted, floral effect and finished with a well place twist of yarn. Genius! Trust Hannah to come up with an idea like that...
If your quest for a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow has been fruitless so far, how about making your own?
Just in time for St Patrick's Day is this tutorial on how to make your own rainbow complete with pot and gold! Hurrah! This is a pretty simple tutorial, which would get good reactions from all the family (mainly because of the 'gold'!)
How About Orange posted an idea today that would be perfect if you're planning on making your own cards this Valentines, or want to leave some romantic notes around the house!
Using ordinary paper clips, you follow a simple folding techniques that turns the clips heart shape; providing the perfect finishing touch to your stationery.
I'm hosting a dinner party on Saturday, and if past experience is anything to go by, I know that while I'm panicking about ingredients and cooking, I'm bound to forget about making the table look great - which is every bit as important as the food when you're entertaining!
A really easy way to do that is to make some eyecatching placemats, and this simple idea for a bleached effect is really effective. No fuss stitching or embroidery: all you need do it use your existing cutlery as stencils and bleach the hell out of your boring old mats. Another great tutorial from Poopscape, the instructions can be found here.
With only two days left before Christmas, we're getting perilously close to 'headless chicken time' in terms of organising presents for friends and family. You might think that embarking on any sort of craft project at this stage is crazy, but in fact, there are plenty of projects for handmade gifts you can whip up in just an hour or so if you're a relatively experienced crafter.
I've rounded up a few quickie project ideas for the desperate, so stop panicking, pick up your tools, settle down by the fire and get yourself into 'the zone' for some last minute creativity!
1. Quick coffee cup cozy
This one's a doddle if you're a reasonably fast knitter, and makes a perfect gift. Who doesn't get sick of their coffee going cold during the winter months? The whole project takes less than an hour, and since nobody (other than the mug) has to wear it, you can use up whatever crazy-coloured yarn you happen to have lying around the house. Instructions are here.

These spooky, glowing faces are such an effective way to create an eerie atmosphere that it's hard to believe how quick and easy they are to make. Skip to my Lou has posted this great tutorial that shows you how to make your own using nothing but crepe paper for the orange 'flesh', hodge podge glue and black construction paper. All these can be used to transform an ordinary jar into fab seasonal votives, all ready to go in under an hour. Perfect for that last-minute decoration panic!
