Crafty Buy: Embroidered Tweet Towel

Screen pic 2011-03-01 at 23.00.27.jpgSometimes you write a tweet that is too damned funny to be lost in the depths of the Twitter stream. How to immortalise your 140 character genius can be an issue. Fear not! There's an embroidered solution!

We Are What We Do, a company that "creates stuff that makes it easier for people to do small, good things everyday" such as teaching your granny to text or remembering to take your own bag to the supermarket, have created The Tweet Towel.

The Tweet Towel is a tea towel with your Twitter tweet embroidered on it. A simple way to mix the traditional handmade and new technology. All profits go to the We Are What We Do Charitable Foundation, funding digital inclusion projects to get different generations talking more, sharing more and spending more time together. It's all explained in a very cute video too.

Etsy pick: Zombies are crap at knitting

zombie_knitting.jpgZombies aren't too sharp when it comes to wielding sticks and string. In fact they seem far more interested in trying to find sweet brains to eat than tracking down just the right shade of Malabrigo. Knitting and zombies. It's a lost cause.

To confirm this Etsy seller Tinaseamonster has conjured up the classic 'Zombies are crap at knitting' fridge magnet.

Now every time you go for a snack you'll be reminded not to expect good things if you take your zombie down to your local Stitch n Bitch. Wise words.

(Thanks to Curlyminx for the Twitter heads up)

Marvellous Moomin cupcakes

Moominmamma_cake.jpgAre you a fan of all things Moomin? Then you are going to fall madly in love with the latest cupcakes from sugary icing artist A Baked Creation.

The Moomintroll Cupcakes come in the form of a blue-eyed Moomintroll, a behatted Moominpappa, a stripy-aproned Moominmamma and the whole gang sat comfortably on yummy cupcakes.

Sigh at the beauty of the blonde Snork Maiden and giggle at the grumpy expression of sulky Little My.

Possibly the finest cupcakes I have ever witnessed. I'm not sure I could bring myself to eat the whole family after all the work that has gone into them. Well, maybe a small Snufkin...

Dr Who nesting dolls

dr_who_nesting_dolls.jpgA tiny Tardis dull of teeny tiny Dr Whos in handpainted nesting doll form? Be still my beating hearts!

The world of Time Lord lovers is all atwitter after crafting Tweeter Molly23 posted this Twitpic of her set of Dr Who nesting dolls she handpainted for a Christmas gift. From a big-faced Matt Smith down to tiny version of William Hartnell they're all there.

Cue the picture popping up all over the net and scores of tweets from people desperate to get their paws on a set as well as a bemused tweet from the person who received the dolls as a gift regarding the online kerfuffle.

Since the tweet Twitter vultures have been circling for more nesting doll goodness but I suspect it'll be a while. Fans can buy her CD to listen to while they wait.

Ah the wonders of internet virals. Long live the appreciation of clever geek-based handmade, I say.

Knitting pattern: the Knitty dead fish hat

deadfishNOFACE.jpgNot at all Christmassy unless you're a pescatarian and replace your turkey with a finned feast. Still a pretty damned cool knitting pattern for our Countdown to Christmas Knits day 16.

When I asked Twitter for their favourite Christmas knits the Knitty Fish Hat [Dead or Alive?] free knitting pattern surfaced from the deep. I'm still unsure of the Christmas connection but it's a fabulous free pattern.

It was published in the winter of 2008 and is still as genius today as it was back then. I reckon celeb fashion folks like Emily Watson and Kate Middleton should pop on a dead fish and make them chic.

Knit someone you love a dead fish for the festive season. Go on.
